About the Program

Shades of Yoga has been running yoga teacher trainings in Ubud since 2007 and has been a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School since 2008. Its 21-day RYT 200 course is held at the school's own sanctuary on Jalan Sugriwa, a quiet street a few minutes from the centre of Ubud, and graduates can register with Yoga Alliance as RYT 200 teachers.

Groups are kept to a maximum of 12 students, and the school says every scheduled course is guaranteed to run. The training suits both aspiring teachers and students who mainly want to deepen their own practice.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Daily meditation, pranayama and asana practice in Vinyasa and Yin styles
  • Workshop-style posture clinics and Iyengar-style practice with blocks, walls and props
  • Yoga philosophy: history, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the eight limbs, yamas and niyamas
  • Anatomy: skeletal and muscular systems, nervous and fascial systems, injury prevention, adjustments and the chakras
  • Sequencing and teaching skills, with individual coaching from week one and a full 60-minute class to master
  • Introductions to prenatal yoga, yoga for seniors and Ayurveda, plus ethics and the business of teaching

Accommodation packages include daily breakfast and lodging on site or just moments from the studio. Other meals are deliberately not included — students eat out at Ubud's many plant-based cafés.
